Ira Paul attends Celebration of Reading Event

I recently attended the 9th Annual Celebration of Reading event held on February 13th at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs, Florida. This was my first time attending this event and I was very impressed. I was seated at the Department of Education table in the front. Some of the people seated at my table included Commissioner of Education Dr. Eric Smith, State Board of Education Member Mrs. Linda Taylor and future incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos.

Former Governor Jed Bush hosted the event. Former President George H.W. Bush and celebrity authors including A.J. Jacobs, Derrick Barns, Steve Doocy, Jeffrey Engel and Edna Hibel read excerpts from there books and shared personal stories, and former Director of Central Intelligence and former Florida Congressman Porter Goss hosted an evening to remember.

One of the highlights of the night included touching stories involving supporters to the families who benefited from Volunteer USAʼs Family Literacy Initiative. It was a very emotional moment when Governor Jeb Bush surprised a very deserving family from Collier County with college scholarships.

Each guest in attendance received a book bag including various books from some of the authors. It was an honor to have the opportunity to attend this outstanding event.
